Why a Real Doctor Makes All the Difference in Weight Loss

Forget the quick fixes and social media fads — the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is by working with a licensed Primary Care Provider who sees the full picture of your health.

At Miami Beach Urgent Care, we don’t just hand you a pill and send you on your way. Our providers look at your lifestyle, medical history, and long-term goals to create a personalized plan that’s safe, sustainable, and rooted in real medicine.

There’s a lot of noise out there. Our doctors are here to cut through the confusion — no judgment, no shame. Just honest, compassionate care that puts your health first.

Here’s how it works:

Schedule a Virtual Visit

During your initial consultation, your provider will take a deep dive into your medical history, review any current medications that could be contributing to weight gain, and order lab work to rule out underlying health conditions that might be slowing your progress. It’s a comprehensive, whole-body approach to help you understand what’s really going on — and how to move forward with a plan that works for you.

Personalized Treatment Plan

In your second appointment, your provider will design a tailored weight management plan based on your unique needs and goals. This may include lifestyle guidance, non-medication strategies, or FDA-approved treatments like semaglutide — if it’s the right fit for your health and body.

Prescription & Follow-Up Care

Once your treatment begins, you’ll have regular video check-ins with your provider to track your progress, make any needed adjustments, and ensure you’re losing weight safely while improving your overall health. Ready to take the first step? Speak with a provider today and start your journey.

“This program changed my life.”

I struggled with my weight for years — trying every diet, every workout, and nothing seemed to stick. I finally decided to try a medical approach through Miami Beach Urgent Care, and I’m so glad I did.

My provider really listened. We started on Semaglutide, and within the first month, I felt more in control of my appetite than ever before. I’ve lost 21 pounds so far, and for the first time, I actually feel like myself again.

The virtual check-ins made it easy, and I never felt judged. Just supported.

“I finally found something that works.”

I’ve been battling my weight since my 30s. I tried cutting carbs, running every morning — nothing made a real difference. Then I started the GLP-1 program at Miami Beach Urgent Care.

My doctor put me on Semaglutide, and within a few weeks, I noticed my cravings were gone. I wasn’t constantly thinking about food anymore. I’ve lost 27 pounds, my energy is up, and my blood pressure has improved.

The telehealth check-ins were convenient, and I always felt supported, not judged.

- David R., 49, Miami Beach

Frequently Asked Questions

Weight Loss and Weight Management Treatment

The safety and well-being of our patients is our number one priority.

Depending on your weight loss goals and the discussion with your provider, some weight loss and body weight management treatments may include behavior modification, such as changes to diet and exercise routines, or prescription medications that can include semaglutide treatments that are often known under brand names like Ozempic or Wegovy, if medically appropriate.

Please note that these treatments are currently experiencing significant stock issues, and the cost is not always covered by insurance.

Your provider will work with you to determine if a medication is clinically appropriate as a part of your overall treatment plan.

We do not prescribe controlled substance medications as part of weight management treatment plans.

Florida

You do not need to book your initial appointment with a doctor. You can book your appointment with any provider that we have available. All of our providers are able to provide Weight Management care. They all work closely together to make sure that we are providing the same excellent standard of care to all patients regardless of which provider you book your appointment with.

Initial intake appointments are 30 mins. Follow-up appointments are typically 20 minutes each.

Billing and Insurance

We contract with most PPO insurance plans. If you are a California Bay Area resident, we also work with a small number of HMO plans.

To verify if we work with your insurance, simply start booking an appointment online. You will be prompted to enter your insurance details and will receive eligibility results instantly as well as an estimate of your appointment cost prior to confirming your appointment.

Some PPO plans that we currently work with are:

Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Health Net, Humana, and United Healthcare.

If your plan is not in-network, cash pay is accepted for all services.

Plans that we cannot work with are:

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide care for patients who have Medi-Cal or Medicaid insurance. This is because we are not licensed Medi-Cal or Medicaid providers, so we are not able to provide care, even if these patients choose to pay cash instead of use their insurance. If you have Medi-Cal or Medicaid, please do not book an appointment with us, as we will be unable to provide care even if you do not enter your insurance information.

Other

After you are diagnosed, if you are prescribed medications, we will coordinate sending these prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy.

You may have a 2-week follow-up if you are on a new dosage for treatment. Once your treatment has stabilized, you will have monthly follow-up appointments to maintain treatment.

If you have questions at any time, please feel free to chat with your provider and care team via our secure app.

Clinically appropriate treatment, tailored on a case-by-case basis.

We put patients first in every decision we make, and follow clinical guidelines based on evidence-based medicine to ensure patients get the most effective care possible.

Being overweight can increase the risk of developing several weight-related health problems and side effects. Some of those risks and common side effects include:

Cardiovascular Disease: Being overweight or obese can increase the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure.

Type II Diabetes: Being overweight can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, which is a condition in which the body can’t use insulin properly causing consistently high levels of blood sugar or glucose.

Cancer: Some types of cancer, such as breast, colon, and kidney cancer, have been demonstrated to be more common in people who are overweight.

Joint Problems: Carrying extra weight can put stress on the joints, leading to an increased risk of osteoarthritis and other joint problems.

Sleep Apnea: Being overweight can increase the risk of sleep apnea, which is a condition in which breathing stops and starts during sleep.

Whether or not you need weight loss treatment is a personal decision made between you and your provider — based on your overall health, goals, and what’s best for your body. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach.

One common screening tool is Body Mass Index (BMI), which helps estimate if a person is overweight. A BMI over 25 is considered overweight, and over 30 is considered obese.  However, BMI is just a starting point — it doesn’t tell the full story of your health.

Depending on your needs, your provider may recommend:

  • Lifestyle changes (nutrition, exercise, stress management)

  • Prescription weight loss medications, if appropriate

Some commonly prescribed medications include Ozempic®, Mounjaro®, Wegovy®, Saxenda®, Rybelsus®, Trulicity®, and Metformin. Your provider will determine if any of these are clinically appropriate for you as part of a safe and effective treatment plan.

What Is Medical Weight Loss?

Medical weight loss is a supervised approach to losing weight, guided by a licensed healthcare provider. Instead of relying on fads or guesswork, your provider takes into account your full health history, current conditions, and lifestyle to develop a safe, sustainable plan tailored specifically to you.

A medical weight loss program may include:

  • Personalized diet and nutrition guidance

  • Exercise recommendations

  • Lifestyle adjustments (like improving sleep or reducing stress)

  • Prescription medications, such as GLP-1s, when clinically appropriate

Beyond helping you shed pounds, the goal is to uncover and address the root causes of your weight gain for lasting results.

How to Lose Weight: A Personalized Journey

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to weight loss. Your path will depend on your body, your health, and your goals — but there are some proven fundamentals that often form the foundation of a successful plan:

🥗 Diet

A balanced, nutrient-dense diet is key. Your provider may help you develop a plan that includes lean proteins, complex carbs, healthy fats, and appropriate calorie intake.

🏃‍♂️ Exercise

Physical activity supports weight loss and improves overall health. Whether it’s walking, strength training, or yoga — your plan will align with your fitness level and lifestyle.

🌙 Lifestyle Changes

Small shifts in daily habits, like getting quality sleep, managing stress, and cutting back on alcohol, can make a big difference.

💊 Prescription Medication

For some, medications like Semaglutide (Ozempic®, Wegovy®) or Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) can help regulate appetite and metabolism. These are only prescribed when medically appropriate, under close supervision.

Remember:

Weight loss is a journey, not a race. Progress takes time, and consistency is key.
